Dharma Initiative Guinness Pour

We went all out for Lost's 100 Episode with this pour. Things started off small, but quickly took on a life of their own. This is our biggest production so far. Duane designed the logo, Sam, Des, MJ, Duane and Dan worked on the set. MJ worked the camera.

The 90 Degrees in April Guinness Pour

We have had some amazing, unseasonably hot weather the past few days. What better way to enjoy this awesome weather than with an ice-cold Guinness? I of course had to use my 250 Anniversary Stout glass. Don't worry there is still more to blog on that topic.

The 250th Celebration!!!

We kicked off the 250th Celebration of Guinness at Cryan's Ale House and Grill

It was a beautiful evening so we sat out on the deck with friends. The food was great and of course the beverages were excellent! We immediately ordered a round of the 250th anniversary Guinness to try it out. The first sip is when I noticed the change in texture due to the carbonation. It was unlike the regular Guinness I had come to know and love. The flavor however, was smooth and finished clean. I noticed a bit of sweetness within the stout (Dan and MJ said this was because I was chewing gum... perhaps they are right)

I wanted to give a special thanks to the owner of Cryan's who bought us both a Guinness. What a great way to start the night! We now had both kinds Guinness in front of us at the table and were able to compare them.

We ended up at Mannion's Irish Pub for a few more rounds of the 250th. We ordered our drinks and to our surprise, we got collector's glasses! We also came away with free t-shirts and some other swag!

All in all it was a great night and we were happy to join the rest of the world to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Guinness!

Guinness 250 Anniversary Pour

We went out last night to celebrate Guinness' 250 Anniversary. It was an awesome evening. We started out at Cryans. The place was ready to celebrate. There were Guinness girls giving away key chains and shirts and reps from Diageo - Guinness USA there. We got talking with the reps and the owner of Cryans. They agreed to let us get behind the bar and tape a pour of Guinness, and the 250 Anniversary stout. Jason from Diageo did the honors. Thanks so much guys! There is a lot more to blog about but we will give you the video now.

Hot Tub Pour

Nothing is finer than enjoying some Guinness while relaxing in the hot tub. Chilling the Guinness draft cans with ice really made for a nice pour. This video doesn't really show that but we'll get it in.

Make sure you head to your local pub to grab a pint of the Guinness 250 Anniversary stout that comes out today. We will be doing so, and of course documenting it and posting here.

Beer Bread Pour

This is the beginning of MJ's video cooking career. We were inspired to make a beer bread after seeing that Guinness beer bread. This wasn't their official mix, but it sure came out well. We may need to start a MJ cooking with Guinness series.

Watch for the 2 special cameos. Always ready to lend support when there is anything happening with food.

UFC Triple Pour

This pour was done during UFC 97. This may have been the most exciting part of the night! We are planning a much better UFC themed pour. Stay tuned for that.

There is some odd glitch in the video. It's like that on the camera too.

Bar Pour

This Pour was at The Clubhouse in Somerville, NJ. It's not a pub pour by any means. We weren't thrilled with the Miller Light glasses, but the pour was pretty solid, and you can't beat a Guinness on tap no matter what vessel it comes in.

Brewing Our First Batch

Today we began the brewing process. We have the Mr. Beer Home Brewery kit. We used two cans of the Pale Ale mixture and added extra cascading hops for fuller flavor.

Duane pretending he knows how to read.

Everything must be sanitised according to the brewmaster by-laws. This process takes at least 20 minutes.
Sanitising the pot for the wort.
Soaking the Pale Ale mixture in hot water allows for an easier pour.
Dan sporting his free Mr. Beer hat, getting ready to pour the Pale Ale mixture.

Duane using a sanitised can opener to open the Pale Ale mixture.

Adding the Pale Ale mixture to the wort.

Pouring the wort into the Mr. Beer Keg.

Foamy goodness. This happened because we used the spray from the sink to bring the water level up to 8.5 quarts. Probably not the best way to do it. Lesson learned.

After adding the yeast and cascading hops, we are good to go.

Duane putting the baby to sleep. See you in a few weeks.

Mr Beer safe in his home for the next couple weeks.

In two to three weeks we will bring you the bottling process.

The Brewing Supplies Have Arrived!

I have received all of the brewing stuff I ordered. The MrBeer Kit (below), came on Wednesday. I ordered some extra ingredients to make sure the beer comes out good, and that came today. Tomorrow will be brewing day. Then of course there is lots of waiting involved.

Pouring the perfect pint

There are tons of pour videos out there. Here is one from Late Night, where Guinness's brew master shows Jimmy Fallon how to pour the perfect pint.

LOST POUR

Nothing goes together better than GUINNESS, LOST and Friends!

Guinness Bread?!

Saw this bread mix at the store the other day. I took a picture and my son asked me why I was so obsessed with Guinness. He'll know some day. My wife asked me why I didn't get it. It really would have made for a nice pour video.

I checked FedEx and the Mr. Beer system should be at my house any minute. I ordered some extra hopped malt, and regular hops, to supplement the brewing stuff it comes with. Who wants to spend all that time and come out with bad beer? I expect to put everything together on Saturday.

250 Anniversary Stout

On April 24 Guinness will be introducing a new stout. This will be the first new stout introduced to the US since Guinness started importing here in 1967. It will only be available for a limited time, around 6 months. You can bet we will be enjoying some of this on April 24.

This brew will pack a little more punch. The alcohol content of the 250 Anniversary stout is 5%, the Traditional stout clocks in at 4.2%.

Pouring will be different too. The anniversary stout is poured once at an angle. Unlike the 2 step process used for Guinness draught.

Guinness Pour Number Four

I'm not sure what is more entertaining, the soda/water glass that the bartender gave me for my Guinness or the hibachi chef dropping the spatula with the "behind the back" move.

Pour Number Three and a couple other things.

We got the Mr. Beer Brewing kit off of Woot.com a few days ago. We will blog our beer making experience here as we go through the process. This is a starter, beginners kit. If things go well I expect we will make the investment to make brewing a more serious hobby.

We got a gift tonight! A Guinness bucket and four glasses.

We documented our third pouring this evening, using one of those new Guinness glasses. We realised that we made a mistake with the first two and turned off the camera way to soon. This time around the full process has been documented. Keep an eye out for the ghetto zoom. Enjoy!
